FAQ

Do I need to delete the data in my cell phone, PDA, etc?

It isn’t necessary to delete your data. We will destroy the data for you. You may want to ensure all your data that you want to keep has been backed up. There is no recovery mechanism once the data is destroyed. If you need the SIM card, please remove it.

The cell phone’s battery is bulging, can you recycle it?

Yes, but please be careful and do not damage the battery and do not use the battery.  If you can remove the battery without damage, then place it into a clear plastic bag but be sure to protect the battery from puncture. There are numerous other places that will accept batteries for recycling; recycling the battery as soon as possible is the safest option.

The battery is damaged and/or cracked open, can you recycle it?

A damaged or punctured battery is a hazard, and it may smoke or catch on fire.  Please do the following:

  • Place the battery into a non-flammable material such as sand or kitty litter as soon as possible. If it is smoking, put it in a bucket of water.
  • Place the battery (one per bag) in a clear plastic bag with the sand or kitty litter. Take it to your municipal household hazardous waste (HHW) recycling center.

Do you need the charger?

We don’t need the charger for use with the phone, but we can recycle the charger properly for you.

Do I need to bring the original documentation?

No. These materials are not needed.
